Dear Friends, Thank you all for your support in the effort to preserve the greenspace at the former location of the Romeo Middle School! Here is an update on some recent and upcoming actions.

Romeo School Board meeting – September 25, 2023

Several of us attended this meeting. Richard Cory spoke with the Board and was directed by President Anita Banach to bring our concept for greenspace preservation to the Romeo Village Council.

Romeo Village Board of Trustees meeting – October 16, 2023

This meeting was well-attended by the members of our group. A formal presentation was made by Richard Cory, Donna Folland, and Franco Folino of the following “Green Space on Prospect Street” vision. “We propose a vision of public green space that creates native habitat, is low maintenance, and provides a space for wellness and learning and relaxation.”

The presentation made the following request: “We request the Village Board host a study session in partnership with our group and Romeo Community Schools to explore the feasibility of this proposal and invite the experts who understand the resources that are available and the process for creating sustainable spaces for people: Macomb County/Green Macomb, Six Rivers Land Conservancy, Four County Community Foundation.”

Our presentation was well-received, and the Village Board voted unanimously to form a subcommittee led by Trustee Nolan Kare to explore the feasibility of the Greenspace vision. Trustees Justin Parker and Shelley Rosso are members of the subcommittee. Trustee Kare was directed by the Village Council to establish communication between the Village Board and the School Board, and he is working on establishing this communication prior to the upcoming November 6 School Board meeting. (Thanks, folks, for the standing ovation you gave our vision!)

Thank you!

Thank you to everyone who donated to the fund organized by Elizabeth Miller for a future mailer. We will determine the purpose of the mailer once communication has been established and there is specific information or an event to publicize.

Special thanks to Trustee Kare and the members of the Village Board and School Board who are helping move forward the vision for “Greenspace on Prospect Street”!
