Dear Friends,
Thank you all for your support in the effort to preserve the greenspace at the former location of the Romeo Middle School at 297 Prospect Street! Here is an update on some recent and upcoming actions.
Romeo Community Schools Board of Education meeting – November 6, 2023
At this meeting the School Board voted unanimously to terminate the RFP and not consider sale to developers until June 1, 2024, allowing time to develop an acquisition plan.
Romeo Village Board of Trustees meeting – November 20, 2023
Superintendent Todd Robinson and Board President Anita Banach made a presentation to the Village Board confirming their decision to halt sale of the property until June and that their intent is to sell, not donate, the property.
Richard Cory made a brief statement during public comment thanking the School Board for their decision and the Village Board for appointing the greenspace committee (Trustees Nolan Kare, Justin Parker, and Shelley Rosso). Both are positive steps in the right direction! Richard said that our group will continue to engage with the community, and we are ready to collaborate in the work ahead.
Trustee Kare made a committee report from the greenspace committee and confirmed the Board’s commitment to exploring solutions for preservation of the property.
What’s next?
A few members of our group are compiling resources, information, and potential solutions to share with all of you and with the Village Board greenspace committee. We expect to schedule a meeting with all of you in early January to get your input and will let you know when this is scheduled.
We’re on the web!
