Green Space Challenge Stories Day 11
Into the Garden I Must Go to Lose my Mind and Find my Soul – John Muir
“Hi I am Jeanne Garwood, a long time resident of the area, I moved here in the early seventies.
As a public school teacher for over 33 years the practice of seeking out nature has soothed me many times after a frustrating day. I taught English, Public Speaking, Drama and Art at the Junior High level. I loved it but as anyone around teenagers knows there are days……
I am lucky enough to live close enough to Stoney Creek Metro Park that I walk often into the park.
I have more hobbies than one person needs, but I like to be active and involved. I am in two Garden Clubs, five book clubs, my church St Paul’s Episcopal Church and three hiking clubs.
I grew up appreciating the outdoors. I planted my first garden in my sand box at age four. Didn’t tell my parents. I mushroom, fish, pick and preserve wild berries, bird watch, ski and kayak. I was very active in the Romeo Theater Club until it disbanded.
I have traveled to many National Parks and utilize many parks in the Romeo area. During Covid I made sure I walked everyday to clear my mind and breathe fresh air.
This place matters because not only will it provide a pollinator garden it will also provide a green space within walking distance to school groups and residents of the village where adults and children can escape the screen and feed their soul.”
