Green Space Challenge Stories Day 27

“Please join us, the Hartsig Family, in our efforts to support the Green Space on Prospect Street project.  My husband Morgan and I have lived in the Village of Romeo since 1987, but the Hartsig Family Romeo roots began in 1971 when Tom and Mary Jane Hartsig moved their family of 7 from Utica ‘out to the country’; which was Romeo.

From that move back in 1971, Green Space on Prospect Street now has the support of the following Hartsig’s, most who attended Romeo Middle School.

All graduates of Romeo High School:

  • Morgan Hartsig: class of 1973
  • Kurt Hartsig: class of 1977
  • Mike Hartsig: class of 1979
  • Kathy Hartsig: class of 1981
  • Bill Hartsig: class of 1991
  • Pat Hartsig: class of 2002
  • Tom Hartsig: class of 2004
  • Ashley Wiers: class of 2005
  • Jennifer Eberle: class of 2009
  • Joseph Eberle: class of 2011
  • Marie Mets class of 2011

They are outdoor enthusiasts, one and all! Please join us and pledge now to preserve this precious parcel of property on Prospect.”

(The following poem has stuck with me since the 7th grade.  I hope you enjoy it.)

“Trees” by Joyce Kilmer 1886 –1918

I think that I shall never see

A poem lovely as a tree.

A tree whose hungry mouth is prest

Against the earth’s sweet flowing breast;

A tree that looks at God all day,

And lifts her leafy arms to pray;

A tree that may in summer wear

A nest of robins in her hair;

Upon whose bosom snow has lain;

Who intimately lives with rain.

Poems are made by fools like me,

But only God can make a tree.
