Green Space Challenge Stories Day 26

“Hello from The Romeo Historical Society! As an organization, we have been in Romeo since 1961. The purpose of our society is to preserve, document and promote the history and heritage of the Village of Romeo and its surroundings. We can’t think of a better way to promote and preserve the history of the Village than in the Green Space on Prospect Street. The property has been consistently utilized for the education of area residents from as far back as 1855, and can continue to be a place to share knowledge as a green space.

The Romeo Historical Society hosts many walking and biking tours each year, to not just tell, but show off the rich history of Romeo. The outdoors are our classroom and allow us to share what we know, in a way that people can connect to what they’re hearing. We have done bike tours on the history of Romeo schools, walking tours of different architectural styles throughout the Village, bike tours showcasing classic cars, and even walking tours through the Romeo Cemetery, telling stories honoring those who may have been long forgotten. We enjoy creating and providing many of these free tours each year, and hope to continue sharing our knowledge with others in Romeo, especially in this Greenspace.

The Board of the Romeo Historical Society fully supports the Green Space on Prospect Street. Please join us in donating or pledging today to preserve this piece of our history before it’s too late.”
