The Power of Nature to Heal

Worldwide, certain cultures have long known of the healing powers of nature. Exposure to nature has been shown to improve physical ailments. Increasing your time in nature can lower blood pressure and inflammation. It can decrease your risk of cardiovascular disease. It is moreover shown to boost mental function and lower depression and anxiety. Some of these health benefits are from exposure to sunlight, which stimulates vitamin D production in the body. However, many benefits are due to the sensory effect of nature.

Getting into nature isn’t just about exercise. There are noticeable benefits from just being in nature like sitting on your porch, on a park bench or under a tree. However, if paired with exercise, like a light walk, the benefits can be even more profound. Getting the most from nature is about finding what works best for you – whether it be walking, gardening, or just sitting still.
