With the summer solstice last week, we are officially into the summer season. It’s been a warm start to the season, but as it cools off a little, be sure to take advantage of the great outdoors.
Looking for things to do outside this summer close to home? Here are 9 ideas of things you can do near Romeo:
1. Walk Downtown Romeo
Downtown Romeo is a great place to walk, with lots of great businesses to check out. For a longer walk, stroll around the historic downtown area and enjoy Romeo’s beautiful neighborhoods.
2. Bike the Macomb Orchard Trail
The Macomb Orchard Trail is a paved walking and biking trail that is 24 miles long, running from Shelby Township, through Romeo, Armada and ending in Richmond. Romeo Trailside Park on Clinton Street in downtown Romeo is a great place to park to access the trail.
3. Swim at Stony Creek Metropark
Go swimming in the beautiful 500-acre Stony Creek Lake. The lake has 2 beaches in Stony Creek Metropark – Eastwood and Baypoint. Both are sandy beaches with designated swim areas. Eastwood Beach has concessions and a huge inflatable water slide. Baypoint Beach has less amenities, but tends to be a little quieter on warm, busy days. The daily entrance fee to Stony Creek Metropark is $10/car. Alternatively, you can buy an annual pass for $40/car (Macomb County resident cost). The annual pass gives you access to 13 Huron-Clinton Metroparks including Wolcott Mill Metropark.
4. Have a Picnic at Addison Oaks Metropark
Just 13 minutes by car from downtown Romeo, Addison Oaks is a great place to have a picnic and relax. Go check out Buhl Lake, have fun on the playground or go for a walk on the paved trail around the lake. Addison Oaks is free for Oakland County residents. For non-Oakland County residents, it is $12 for a day pass for $50 for an annual pass.
5. Go Stargazing
Any night with clear skies will work for stargazing! Lay out in your yard or find another dark place to admire the constellations in the night sky.
6. See the Farm at Wolcott Mill Metropark
At Wolcott Mill Metropark Farm Center, you can see cows, chickens, goat, pigs, horses and more. Stop by to stroll around the grounds and learn more about agriculture and farming. The daily entrance fee to Wolcott Mill Metropark is $10/car. Alternatively, you can buy an annual pass for $40/car (Macomb County resident cost). The annual pass gives you access to 13 Huron-Clinton Metroparks including Stony Creek Metropark.
7. Go U-Pick at Blake’s
Go to Blakes or other local farms for U-pick. To see what is in season, check out Blake’s website below.
8. Have Fun at the General Squire Waterpark
Go to General Squire Waterpark in Dryden. The waterpark has 2 big slides as well as an area with shallow waters for your young ones. Check out the website for the most up to date rates to enter the waterpark.

9. Go to Seven Ponds Nature Center
Seven Ponds Nature Center has an indoor interpretive center where you can learn more about nature in Michigan. It is also a great place to go for a walk. Admission to the center and grounds is $3/person and is free for children 12 and younger. Check in at the nature center building to pay admission and get a map.
