The Clinton River watershed is the most populated watershed in Michigan and spans across five Michigan counties – Lapeer, Macomb, Oakland, Saint Clair, and Wayne. The watershed covers 760 square miles and encompasses all waterbodies including lakes, ponds, wetlands, brooks and streams. All rivers and streams in the Clinton River Watershed eventually drain into Lake Saint Clair. The watershed not only provides beauty and recreation in our community, but also supports diverse wildlife and is critical to local water quality and flood control. Land development, stormwater runoff, pollution and poor agricultural practices all serve as threats to our watershed and water quality.
Getting involved in local efforts to protect our watershed can be very impactful. One of the best ways to do this is to support the Clinton River Watershed Council (CRWC). This organization is a non-profit dedicated to protecting and enhancing the Clinton River Watershed. The council puts on a lot of great events aimed at education and community involvement including Adopt-A-Stream programs, community cleanups and so much more.
On September 19, 2025, the Clinton River Watershed Council is hosting a “Crafts on the Clinton” event in Dodge Park in Sterling Heights. The event will have beer and wine tastings, live music, food, art vendors and more. This event serves as an opportunity to learn more and have fun in the community!
